"The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world. Our mission: Sonia Saleh has worked both in the for-profit and not-for-profit world. During her hospitality career she served as a board member for national, regional, and local nonprofits. All this experience and knowledge has given her the unique expertise and understanding of both executives and board members serving nonprofits. She uses these gifts to teach, train, and coach executives and board members of nonprofit organizations in fundraising. She has her own company, Uplifting Nonprofits, and has created a course called “Unleash your Inner Fundraiser” that helps individuals optimize their fundraising efforts while doubling their fundraising results. The course is a combination of new thinking with brain science and learning how to move beyond your comfort zone, to cultivate your own personal style to attract and build relationships to benefit you and the organization. She speaks 3 languages Arabic, French, and English, and travels regularly, except for now. She lives to travel and eat potato chips. |

Rebuilding Together Long Island, Inc.
Jul. 06, 2021 12:15 p.m.
Retired from the business world in 2014 and have volunteered with Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI) for many years. Three years ago I was selected as president of RTLI and also serve as the grant writer. A volunteer organization, we began in 1992 as Christmas in April serving struggling homeowners in the Massapequa area. In 2000, our name was changed to Rebuilding Together Long Island to better reflect our work and the people we serve. As an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together, our mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives. More importantly, we touch hearts and renew people's faith in their fellow man by showing them that their neighbor's care and are willing to lend a hand to those in need. All volunteers, our retirees give freely of their time and their expertise to help low income homeowners who are seniors, veterans, families and those with physical limitations. There is never a charge to those accepted into our Safe & Healthy Homes, as well as our Aging in Place programs. Our work focuses on safety, accessibility into the home and allowing seniors to age in place. Our work may consist of constructing wheelchair ramps, installing grab bars and smoke detectors, repairing windows and doors, installing new flooring to eliminate trip hazards, repairing sheetrock, correcting minor plumbing and electrical hazards and so much more. Pre-Covid we were completing over 160 projects each year. Our clients have ranged in age from 7 months old to 106 years young. |

Big Brothers Big Sisters Of LI
Jul. 20, 2021 12:15 p.m.
In my role at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, I focus on increasing our mentor base. The more volunteers we have in our organization the more children we can assist. There is always a need for children to have additional guidance in their life. If we can match those youth with a Big (adult mentor) we can help make a real difference in the world. We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving: Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships Avoidance of risky behaviors Educational success Unique to BBBSLI, we provide a system of ongoing evaluation and support which is proven by independent studies to help families by improving the odds that Littles will perform better in school, avoid violence and illegal activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and peers. We match children between the ages of 7 and 16. Our volunteers are ages 18 and over. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island is a private, non-sectarian, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Big Brothers Big Sisters International operates in 12 countries. Headquartered in Tampa, FL, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. |
